Spring 2021 Series: Beyond the Basics – The Buddha’s Middle Way
We frequently hear that the Buddha’s teachings comprise the “middle way.” Most often, this is understood to be a middle way between indulgence in sense pleasures, and the asceticism of renouncing all sense pleasures. This was the message of his first discourse after awakening, but it is only one way the important concept of the middle way is reflected in the Buddha’s teachings.
In this series, we will explore how this principle pervades the Buddha’s teachings. Through sutta study, articles, recorded talks, and semi-weekly Zoom sessions we will investigate how the middle way is reflected in other key teachings, and how it can support us on this path of awakening. The four two-hour Zoom sessions will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evenings, April 6 & 20 and May 4 & 18.
